Get in Tune with God—This Assessment Can Help!
The time between Passover and Pentecost (March-May) is a specific time and season for you to hear the voice of God. The spiritual atmosphere is ripe to receive revelation.
I have noticed that God is speaking very clearly right now, but we need to make some changes from the way we have heard Him in the past.
I developed a quick “hearing assessment” to help you get in tune and time with hearing the voice of God. These questions might seem elementary, but I do these things daily. I believe they will help you, too.
Hearing Assessment
Have you asked God to speak to you?
Doubt and unbelief can clog our spiritual ears from hearing God. We have to believe God wants to speak to us. So, get bold and ask Him to speak to you. If you already hear Him, then ask for more.
Are you reading the Bible regularly?
Reading the Bible regularly helps us understand His character and ways; it also helps us become more spiritually sensitive. God will often speak to us by impressing a verse on our minds.
In 1988 I received my life calling through a small prophetic word Bible. I heard a small voice inside—I knew it was the Holy Spirit—tell me to look up Isaiah 61. Honestly, I don’t think I had read the book of Isaiah at that point and had no idea what I would find. I opened my Bible, read the first two verses and fell on the floor crying.
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor …” Isaiah 61:1-2 NIV
Ask God to speak to you through the Bible about your life or your situation.

Have you made it a point to practice hearing God?
Hearing God does not have to be all that complicated, but it does take practice! If you make the supernatural a natural part of your life, it will begin to increase. Whatever you focus on and do on a regular basis will become clearer and begin to grow.
Do not be afraid to make a mistake. In fact, God will use our mess-ups to help sharpen us. Spiritual gifts are not given to us in a mature state. The more we use them and the more training we seek out, the better we will understand, and the clearer things become.
Do you track your experiences with hearing God?
I take time each day to write down a few things that are happening in my life. This gets me to open my journal and record simple things that are going on: how I feel, my health, what is going on in my life, or dreams I had last night. If you do this, it will be easier for you to record when you hear God. Sometimes just being in your journal will jog your memory on things you may have forgotten.

Have you shifted your focus?
People everywhere are spending way too much time looking for demons instead of God’s angels. If you focus too much on the demonic, that is all you will see.
If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you! Proverbs 11:27 NLT
Likewise, if we spend too much time focused on what is wrong with ourselves and the world around us, it can be difficult to hear God for the good things He has in store for us and the world!
